About this speaker

Jonas is a Ph.D. student in the Applied Mathematics Program at Yale University. He graduated with a B.A. in Applied Mathematics from UC Berkeley in 2020, both with distinction in general scholarship (cum laude) and highest departmental honors (summa cum laude in math). He was also a recipient for the Regents' and Chancellor's Scholarship, the most prestigious scholarship offered by the university to entering UC Berkeley undergraduates and given to around 2.5% of UC Berkeley undergraduates. He is also a National AP Scholar with an SAT score of 2240 (pre-2016 scoring) and an ACT score of 33.

Some of his academic interests include numerical analysis, data analysis, several subfields of dynamics and mechanics (esp. fluids and nonlinear dynamics), PDEs, ODEs, and inverse problems.

He extensively participated in music competitions throughout K-12; he was the principal oboist for the SCSBOA All-Southern Wind Ensemble, a member of multiple regional youth orchestras and honors groups, and participated in the National Young Composers Challenge three times, both as a winner in 2013 and a finalist in the two competitions following that.
